Obituary of John Iglar
In Loving Memory
Mr. John J Iglar, of Cincinnati, Ohio and formerly of Delhi, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of the late Irma (Ridzon) Iglar. Loving father of John Iglar (Donna) and Karen Loveland (Robert). Adored grandfather of Maggie Rose Fiedorek (Sam), Emily and Sarah Iglar, Jack and Grace Loveland. John was born June 21,1933 in Hamilton, Ontario to the Late Caroline (Buch, 1992) and John (1979) Iglar, and was predeceased by his younger brother, Edward Iglar (2004) (Late Norma, 2015).
Growing up on a tobacco farm, John loved gardening and proudly maintained an extensive vegetable and flower garden for many years. He also enjoyed sports and excelled in basketball, football and boxing in High School and College. After graduating from Delhi High School in 1954, he went on to earn a Chemical Engineering Degree at the University of Toronto.
John’s first job out of college was in Hamilton, Ontario at the Proctor & Gamble Soap and Detergent Plant. This led to several lifetime friendships and a thriving 33-year career with the P&G Industrial Chemical Division. As a loyal “P&G man” John excelled in various roles within the company in Canada and in Westfield, New Jersey where he managed the Chemical Sales Team. eventually moving to Corporate Headquarters in Cincinnati, where many of his colleagues became dear friends.
John met the love of his life, Irma, in 1953, while in high school. During their 64-year marriage, they travelled extensively and spent every summer at their beloved Cottage in Canada amidst friends, loved ones, relatives and their children, John and Karen.
John was especially fond of coaching John Jr in several of his sports teams including little league football, baseball and basketball. He taught both children (and Irma) how to snow ski, water ski, sail and golf.
John retired in 1988 and not one to sit idle, enjoyed daily workouts and comradery at the local Health Club, became an avid golfer and an excellent racquetball player. When he wasn’t spending time with family, he was volunteering his time with numerous projects at Guardian Angels Parish and providing tax return services for the underprivileged.
John led a full life, touching the hearts of many with his kindness, generosity, integrity, and character. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. May John’s soul rest in eternal peace.
Friends may call at Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, Delhi for Visitation on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. followed by A Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Augustine Ogundele officiating. Inurnment at Delhi Cemetery.
