Obituary of Mike Sloot

With sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Dominicus “Mike” Sloot who passed away peacefully at Norfolk General Hospital on January 1, 2024 in his 89th year. Mike was born in Amsterdam, Holland on October 7, 1935 and immigrated to Canada in 1948. He was a proud tobacco farmer in Delhi and Waterford. Mike was a talented and respected cureman for many local farmers as well as the Delhi Experimental Farm. Other working years were spent at the Delhi Tobacco Auction Exchange and the Delhi Foundry. He was a proud member of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church as a 3rd Degree Member of the Delhi Knights of Columbus Council 5095. Beloved husband of Agnes (Verbuyst) for 65 years. Loving father of David Sloot and Theresa (Chris Paret). Cherished papa of Laura (Jake Quain), Kayla (Spenser Heard) and Julia Sloot Carr. Dearest great-grandfather of Jack Heard, Henry Heard, Ruby Quain and Charlie Quain. Also survived by his siblings Lewis (Pat) and Alida (Rene VanKerkoerle), by his sisters-in-law, Lois Sloot, Mary (Ken Koprich) and Godlieve Vranckx (Jim), as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his son Michael Sloot Jr. and by his brothers Adriaan, John and Corey. In keeping with Mike’s expressed wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with Prayers said at 3:00 p.m. A Private Inurnment at Delhi Cemetery will take place at a later date.
