Obituary of James Evans
In Loving Memory
Mr. James Evans U.E., formerly of Bell Street Delhi, passed away at the Norview Lodge, Simcoe on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in his 78th year. He was born the 24th of June 1941 at Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe, the son of William and Gladys (Ritenburg) Evans. He attended Little Lake Public School and Norwich District High School. In 1965 he married Nancy Nold and together they had two children Paul Evans (Melinda) of Tillsonburg and Barbara Pizzingrilli (Max) of St. Catharines. Jim was blessed to have four wonderful grandchildren, Vanessa and Nicolas Pizzingrilli, Mitchell Wass and Mya Evans. In 1961 Jim became a certified electrician and worked at various construction sites throughout southern Ontario. On November 6th, 1967 Jim joined the Delhi Police Force and on April 1st, 1974 became a member of the Haldimand-Norfolk Regional Police Force. During his time in policing he carried out various office duties, was a firearms instructor, in service instructor and relief platoon sergeant. Jim retired from policing on March 31st, 1996, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his retirement Jim enjoyed day trips antique shopping, family genealogy, furniture refinishing, woodworking projects and watching the Yankees, Cowboys and Canadiens. He was also able to document and obtain his certification as a descendant of United Empire Loyalist William Havens (1738-1800). Jim is survived by his brother Lorne (Sheila) of Port Dover, sister in law Doreen Evans of Simcoe, a niece and three nephews. He was predeceased by both his parents, William (1991) and Gladys (1996), in laws Wilfred (2002) and Esther Nold (2008), brother Archie (1988) and brother in law Thomas Nold (1988). Jim's final years were spent at Norview Lodge in Simcoe where he enjoyed spending time with other residents in the lodge. Jim was very happy with the care, respect and support provided by all members of the staff during his stay. On October 11th, 2018 Jim was the first lodge resident elected as President of the Resident’s Council at Norview Lodge located at 44 Rob Blake Way, Simcoe. As per Jim's request, no service or visitation will be held. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
