Obituary of Yvonne Vandekerckhove
In Loving Memory
Mrs. Yvonne Vandekerckhove, we are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in her 93rd year. For over 60 years, she lived on Wilson Avenue in Delhi. Yvonne was the centre of her family. She loved helping her children. She could always be counted on to listen to any problem big or small, never judging. She loved being with her grandchildren. At any family function, she would be down on the floor playing a good game of jacks or pick up sticks with them and in later years a serious game of aggravation. The corner of Wilson Avenue will not be the same. Yvonne loved to decorate for every season, but Christmas was her favourite. The corner would be so brightly lit with decorations and lights that it was affectionately called “The GramaRama”. Yvonne was a Member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs C.W.L., Norfolk General Hospital, Ladies Auxiliary, the Belgian Club, Ladies Auxiliary and the Delhi Senior Friendship Centre. Beloved wife of the Late Andre Vandekerckove (1999). Loving mother of Andrea VanElslander (Danny), Jerry Vandekerckhove (Blanche), Lorine Pasztor (Arpad), Randy Vandekerckhove (Cathy), Linda DePoorter and Wendy Pole. She was loved by her 15 grandchildren: Leanne (Glen), Lisa (Brian), Rebecca, Melissa (Doug), Megan (Ryan), Michael (Chantelle), Andy (Kim), Adam (Dara), Darrell (Lori), Greg (Arly), Amanda, Richard (Danielle), Kimberly (Donnie), James, Katie (Erik) and 18 great-grandchildren, and by her sister, Rena Storp and nieces & nephews. Predeceased by her parents: Gerard & Maria (Pyl) Verbuyst, her son-in-law Rene DePoorter, her brother Roger Verbuyst (Late Julia), her brother-in-laws Roger Storp and Joseph Coeman (Late Paula) and by her nephew, Alan Verbuyst. The family wishes to thank all of the staff on the 4th floor of Norfolk General. Special thanks to neighbours Robin and Pat Cook, R.T. Respiratory, Dr. Nunn, Kathy Martins and the Baker boys. Mom appreciated, all of the calls she received while in hospital from her friends. We thank you all. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) for visitation on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. In consideration of the continuing health and safety of our friends and family, a Private Family Funeral Service will take place with Interment in Delhi Cemetery. Donations to the Delhi Community Health Centre or the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
