Obituary of Karen Oakes

Karen Oakes of Simcoe, passed away suddenly at the Brantford General Hospital, on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in her 72nd year. Born on the family farm, Karen lived there all of her life. She was a banker who worked for BMO for over 40 years, retiring in 2010. She was a dedicated volunteer and served multiple terms and positions on the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation Board. Retiring gave her more time to spend on her passion, Rotary Club of Delhi, where she held the position of member (since 1995), Delhi President (1999-2001), Chair of the District Permanent Fund (2004-2008), Recipient of the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service (2007), District Governor (2010-2011), District Foundation Chair (2012-2017), Multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Benefactor, District Training Team member, Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation, Bequest Society member, current Zone Treasurer and Endowment/Major Gifts Advisor. She lived the Rotary motto of “Service above Self”. Beloved partner of Wolfgang Lindemann for over 32 years. Dearest cousin of Neil Rutherford (Mary), Marvin Rutherford (Connie) and Dale Rutherford. Predeceased by her parents, May (Stinson) and Franklin Oakes.
