Obituary of Albert Vanderhaegen

Mr. Albert ‘Hubby” Vanderhaegen of Delhi, formerly of Simcoe, passed away at Hamilton General Hospital on Saturday, August 22, 2020 in his 87th year. Albert was a tobacco farmer for many years on the family farm on Highway 3 between Delhi and Simcoe, and after selling the farm continued to cure tobacco and work in the tobacco factory in the winters. He loved cooking, gardening and travelling in his motor home. Although he was quiet at first, he was a socialite at heart. He often was the first to arrive and the last to leave at social gatherings. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Dear father of Mark Vanderhaegen (Lucy) and their children Jordan and Danielle, Tracy Donohue (Jeff) and their children Stephanie, Amy and Sarah, and Kim Robinson and her children Cassidy and Brooklyn. Dearest brother of Clara Cosyns. Survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Jules and Marina (Ponseele) Vanderhaegen, by his siblings Marie Maenhaut (2014) and Andrew Vanderhaegen (1963), and by his companion Kay McKenzie (2018). Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (mfh.care) for visitation on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (A Facial Covering is asked for & Provided to attend any Visitations & Services). A Private Family Funeral Service will follow with Deacon Andy Alway officiating. Inurnment in Delhi Cemetery. Memorial Donations to the Delhi Long Term Care Centre (Resident Activity Fund) or the Delhi Community Health Centre Will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
